Is LinkedIn social media marketing really worth it?

With all the hype around social media and the overwhelming number of avenues for digital marketing - is posting on LinkedIn really going to make a difference for your business?

We are NOT here to tell you that it is. This blog isn't written by someone hyped up on LinkedIn stats in hopes you'll need a professional LinkedIn social media manager.

Here, all you'll find is a simple overview of who we recommend LinkedIn posting to, and why.

Should I post on LinkedIn?

At All In Creative, we posted over 1000 posts to LinkedIn for clients in the last year, helping businesses reach more people and get better results. We've seen first-hand what works and what doesn't, and when it is important to include LinkedIn in your digital marketing plan.

Here's how to tell if you SHOULD engage in a social media strategy for LinkedIn.

You provide a B2B service

LinkedIn may not be the social media platform with the most users, but it's the number 1 performing platform for B2B marketing. So much so that 82% of marketers report that LinkedIn is their number one source of digital marketing success.

3 out of 4 people on LinkedIn identify themselves as the key decision makers for their organisation, making this the richest source of target marketing for B2B services.

You need funding or investors

Whether you're a charitable organization looking for support, or a start up looking for an investor, LinkedIn is the place to demonstrate your importance and worth.

For charities, 60% of donors say that compelling online content influences their giving decisions, and 90% of Fortune 500 companies run CSR initiatives and actively seek nonprofit partnerships. According to the Harvard Business Review, LinkedIn is where many of these start.

For startups, Forbes reported that 57% of venture capitalists use LinkedIn to research potential investments before making a decision. Visibility is important, and startups that post regularly on LinkedIn are reportedly 33% more likely to receive inbound investor inquiries than those who don't.

You want to be recognized as a thought leader

Thought leadership can be your secret weapon. Nearly 90% of C-level decision-makers believe that thought leadership affects their opinions of a company. And a further, 64% of buyers find an organisation's thought leadership content more trustworthy than its marketing materials.

You need to regularly recruit quality talent

75% of professionals who recently changed jobs used LinkedIn to research companies and opportunities before making their move. LinkedIn is your space to profile your business culture and highlight why you are an attractive employer. Glassdoor reports that a strong LinkedIn profile showcasing your team, values, and workplace culture can increase applications by 30%.

The consensus on whether you need LinkedIn for Business

If you tick any of those boxes - B2B marketing, searching for funding, building a thought leadership brand, or relying on recruitment - then LinkedIn should be at the top of your digital marketing strategy.

That's not to say other businesses and retailers haven't had great success using LinkedIn, but for companies and businesses that fit the prescribed bill, these make LinkedIn a no-brainer for success.

So what now? What do you post on LinkedIn?
